JAGOR'S IN GOA

Jagor is Goa’s oldest rituals. Jagor, being held in different villages of Goa by different communities and in different ways to invoke the local gods and spirits. The all night ritualistic musical-drama and dance performance by the different village communities of Goa is unique in many ways

once a year.
“Jagor, the word itself means to keep the vigil or to remain awake all through the night. It is invoking and worshipping of local spirits and gods. It is also an excuse for all communities to come together.” Jagor is performed right from Pernem to Canacona, but one jagor that has got everyone’s attention is Siolim Jagor. It is the only jagor celebrated in Goa where two communities – Hindus and Christians – come together.

At the begining of the jagor people who participates in it they light a lamp infornt of the stage and then they sing a song. For jagor men performs like women, they wear sarees, they makeup themselves and look like women.

In Jagor people of Goa uses different musical instruments. They dance, sing songs, and people also act for jagor. For jagor men become women and give performance infront of the other people and entertain them. They uses traditional dresses like sarees etc . They perform different types of songs to entertain people. The men performs in form of women. To watch this jagor everybody comes from different places of goa where the jagor is held, and get entertain. The people of goa uses different traditional instruments for jagors like musical instruments i.e., gumat, dhol, tashey, simel etc. Jagor is one kind of culture in the state of goa because it entertain people all over goa who comes to watch it. also the jagors is way to so the culture of the state of goa. being a small state goa has many culture but jagor is one of them.

In my opinion, i love watching jagor because the people acting in it they act well they entertain others and even in jagor men dresses like women and act. they use different things in jagors etc.
