DHANGAR DANCE
Dhangar dance is very popular in Goa. The costumes for the danghar dance is white or black colur long clothes having red strips on it but mostly those dhangar dancers prefer white clothes. It is considered a Navratri dance. Dhangars are shepherd community. Dhangar dance is considered a Navratri dance which involves a fusion of adoration. During Navaratri ....(navaratri means nine nights of the festival)the leader of the house is on fast,he takes bath at early hours in the morning, he has to drink one cup of milk per day and prays and dances before the family deity.The dance begins with simple footwork to a slow beat accompanied to the beat of Dhol. Generally they move around the drum / dhol players during the dance.
It also has a turban on the head of each dancer. Turban is round in shape and white in colour. The dance is performed to please and worship Bira Deva or Biruba for his blessings.
