DIVLYANCHI NACH OR LAMP DANCE IN GOA




 Lamp Dance also known as Divlyanchi Nach is a dance in Goa performed by women during Shigmo festival. In this dance the Goan women balance heavy brass lamps with burning wicks on their heads.
The Lamp Dance is called so because of these brass lamps. The dancers have to indulge in slow dance movements so as to balance the lamps which is done through exquisite footwork and tremendous self-discipline. The dancers match the rhythms of the traditional folk songs and the whole dance is eye catching.

The Lamp dance usually involves instrumental music and folk instruments like Ghumat, Samael, Cymbal and Harmonium. The dance is popular in central and southern Goa.


The performers indulge in a slow dancing movement, balancing brass lamps with burning wicks on the head and the hands.

The balancing act controlled by tremendous self-discipline and exquisite footwork matching with the rhythms of the traditional folk songs are eye-catching. This group dance is popular in the southern and central Goa.
